Wingate Problem Install/Operation

Postby kenet » Mar 21 04 6:56 pm

Scenario 1: I have installed Wingate 5.2.2 server on XP pro, Once i installed Wingate 5.2.2 client on Win98SE, Wingate cant detect the installed Wingate server on XP
I can ping the server side and vice versa...
Solution: I made the Wingate server(XP) stop and then start, then i installed Wingate client on Win98 and that it.. it automatically detects the server side.
Question: Do i have to stop and start always?
*************************************************************
Scenario 2: Open the XP pro(Wingate server) and higlighted the Wingate icon and popups "Wingate Engine Running" then open the client side(Win98SE). I open a browser(IE6sp1) and another window popup "There no Wingate server detected"

Solution: I made the Wingate server(XP) stop and then start, then i installed Wingate client on Win98 and that it.. it automatically detects the server side.

Question: Everytime i open a brwser, it automatically popup a windows saying "There no Wingate server detected"... i got to server side and stop then start the Wingate Engine then go to client side... then it can now browse. Do i have to this over and over again(stopping and starting)?
*************************************************************
Scenario 3: Client Side: All internet application have been close. A windows popup saying"There are no internet application do u want to disconnect?" i click "NO"

Question: Can this be stopped, like, if i close all of my internet application there would be no window popping saying"There are no internet application do u want to disconnect?" ?
*************************************************************
Lastly, More power and Godspeed to all staff of Qbik... Thank You

Hi Kenet

Firstly you shouldnt need to stop and start WinGate(server) to have the client recognise WinGate server.

Does your Win98 machine with the WinGate Internet Client (WGIC) have its DNS and Gateway properties set to IP of the WinGate Server.? (As per the helpfile DNS ip is required to be entered on the client for it to be able to make DNS requests to the WinGate machine.)

Have you configured the client machine to use the WinGate server. This can be selected through the WGIC applet. Does the server appear on the Server tab?

Lastly I assume you are using a dialup connection?. There is a tick box on the dialer config in Gatekeeper on the WinGate server that has the "allow remote clients to disconnect" option (on the General tab). You could unchecking this to see if this provides you what you want. Be aware that this will leave thie dialer connected on the WinGate server.

Hope this helps

I have set my DNS properties to my server IP, i have not set server IP in gateway properties... after i have set the gateway properties to server IP... nothing really happen. =(

*when i open my XP(server) and connect it, i open my client(win98). i open a brwser from the client and popups 2 window saying "there are no wingate server...." and a dialup connection window w/ only an icon on it-theres no sent or recieved data information in it*

Nertwork card - XP - cnet pro NIC
win98 - aopen nic
**************************************************************
I have configured the client machine to use the WinGate server from the WGIC applet long ago.

the uncheck the "allow the remote clients to disconnect" helps... thankz

Postby kenet » Mar 24 04 8:51 am

Hello Qbik staff... i think i may have a solution to my problem.... i think my firewall(Blackice Server from ISS.net or http://blackice.iss.net/) has been given Wingate a conflict... after i disable/uninstall blackice... wingate now works perfectly... however... my server has no firewall... any suggestion on what firewall software to use w/o conflict in wingate?

Hi Kenet

Great to hear you got it to work properly.
WinGate has a built in Firewall in its Extended Networking configuration to protect your external Internet connection against attacks.

You can configure it under the Ens Configuration in GateKeeper.

win98 and dialer

Postby paolog » Mar 26 04 8:42 pm

Hi... I'm thinking that modems are not yet my friends ;-)

Due to the dialing problem on win2K (don't solved from my last topic) I decide to install wingate on a new machine. I have a new formatted win98SE machine, then I install wingate and then (due to driver finding problem) the ISDN I-courier robotics modem and setup IE connection.

Then I have configurated the dialer in wingate.. all fine.
At every machine reboot..... wingate tell me that dialer is changed, and that there is a new dialer to config.
I remake the WinGate dialer config all works.. until next reboot... same problem.
I have deleted and remade the connection of IE, and then again that one of wingate.. but the problem still persist.

Can someone help me ? please :(

i think wingate detected no client so as wingate produces a syslog like this

in my trial and error, i open first the client (win98se) then open the xp(server) and voila, wingate detected the client

in conclusion, is there a solution for this? coz everytime i use these PCs i always use only the server and only use the client for my brother... so everytime my brother uses the client.... i stop then start the wingate engine to detect the client

my meaning of shutdown is a total shutdown, meaning power cord is not online with the socket(voltage)

Hi Kenet

That sounds like the network card (NIC) that the WinGate server uses to connect to the LAN (NOT the Internet connection) has not had a private IP address set and so cant provide address fro the WinGate services, or these details are being lost everytime the XP (WinGate) machines shuts down.

You will need to check the LAN NIC on the XP server to see that there is a private IP address entered on the card properties.
From the example you gave:
Object: DHCP Service
Time: 27-Mar-2004 19:32:19
Message ID: 0601
Description: This service will not operate. There are no private address interfaces bound to this service, and public address allocation is denied. You may need to renumber your network
Object: DHCP Service

Message ID: 0504
Description: Invalid binding [0.0.0.0] removed. This interface is no longer available on your system (IP address changed?). Check service bindings
Object: Telnet Proxy server
Time: 27-Mar-2004 19:32:19
Message ID: 0504
Description: Invalid binding [0.0.0.0] removed. This interface is no longer available on your system (IP address changed?). Check service bindings

You will need to check this as thats what the logs are telling us what is happening.
You will need to statically assign this card a private IP (eg 192.168.1.1)
