Mail Server Guest access

Postby mikebos » Mar 27 04 8:46 pm

Hi,

I'm having a problem with spammers with open relay OFF.

With Wingate Email server enabled and default settings I can observe spammers accessing our system as SMTP guests in the activity window.

If I set the system to assume users, inbound mail is rejected.

What services ie. SMTP POP3 require guest access to receive mail

The SMTP server is the responsible of incomming email (from your spammers).
I soggest you to reinforce the logging policy in the policies tab on the SMTP service properties, reinforce that users be authenticated.
This is only MY way to achieve a solution to your case (by the way sae as mine a short time ago :)

Hope this works.

SMTP Guest access

If inbound mail servers are required to authenticate I can't see how you would receive any mail?

There must be some way of forcing inbound mail to only be accepted for local domains, other than NOT to select relaying, I don't see how to enforce that.
