Random connection drops

Postby GecKo » Apr 12 04 6:34 pm

I recently installed Wingate 5.2.3 trail on my internet server (Have been using the standard ICS that comes with Win2K) and it appeared that it had all been going great!

I have one problem however...

We mainly use NAT for everything, (We did use the HTTP proxy server for a bit but noticed that it seemed to slow everything down a tad, more of a hardware thing than a software im guessing, the hard drive in the server computer is ultra-old and slow) as we didn't have to change anything... I've noticed that our IRC connections will drop, and FTP (I've only tested on secure ftp connections) downloads are reset after 10 - 15 minutes.

Is this because I have the trial version or is there something else I could check?

Another thing on the side, is there any way I can quickly view a summory of each user's total bandwidth usage?

Any ideas on this?

I really need to sort this out or I'll end up switching back to standard ICS...

I am not an expert at this... but perhaps you could make a "New Service" under the "Services" tab. Make the new the FTP Proxy Service. Turning on "Redirect ENS and WGIC Sessions" should allow NAT/ENS to work through the proxy transparently. Then setup policies/settings as required.

To view a users bandwidth consumption, go to the Users tab and expand users. Double click a user and then look at the accounting tab. You have the information there... Also in the registry (regedit), under the key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Qbik Software\WinGate\UserDatabase

You will be able to find the information.

I doubt whether the problems you are experiencing is because you are using a trial version of WG.

Goodluck, let us know how you get on.
