Server Boots, BSOD After 30s

Postby Mildaine » May 15 04 2:24 am

Now here's a strange one for someone to tackle.

I run Windows XP Proffesional machine, on a Duron 1100mhz / 384mb Ram / 40gb HD. The specific problem I am having with WinGate VPN is as follows :

After installation; I reboot my machine. Windows starts up, after 30-35s of post-windows boot, I receive a very brief flash of a Blue Screen of Death, then my machine immedietly reboots. I have tried modifying my startup config to not load the wingate engine on boot. It still does the same thing. I boot in Safe mode with networking support - same thing occurs. I boot in safe mode, it does NOT bsod me and reboot.

Now, WinGate VPN server WAS functioning properply before. I had it uninstalled because I wanted to try a different VPN server, I then proceeded to give OpenVPN server a try from http://www.SourceForge.net. (at this point, the previous installation of Wingate VPN was functionioning. I installed OpenVPN, read through the various help files, and decided it was a bit too much of a hassle to use. Being a visually oriented person, I don't take well to configuring programs with notepad and ect.

I also decided WinGate VPN was in general alot more user freindly. I reinstalled WinGate VPN. That's when the problems started to occur. I have tried reinstalling and uninstalling many times already. And yes, I uninstalled OpenVPN a while ago. Any help would be appreciated.

I now believe this may have something to do with how Wingate VPN interacts with network connections.

Specifically, how it handles network bridges.

OpenVPN installed TAP-W32 adapters into my network also present under my system devices as physical devices. (No longer present) When these were installed, they were bridged to my local area connection to the internet. Perhaps even after uninstallation, some lingering effects might hinder wingate vpn from functioning correctly ?

Have you tried running Wingate without this bridging?

Hi,

In my experiences this is due to nic drivers (hence the problem when networking is enabled) get the latest drivers (windows update) and give it a shot.

Come on back and tell us if it works

We have reproduced the problem - if the system bridging was on, QBIK driver collapsed - we are working on the fix at the moment.
