Upgrade problem 5.2.3

Postby Andrea » Jun 21 04 3:14 pm

I have installed wingate onto a win2k pro machine with Sp4 and with the critical updates. I had wingate running on a server before this and had a class room of users on a 192 range and they connected to a server in their class room which did the ip forwarding to the wingate server. With this setup I had to manually add routes to the wingate server for wingate to get back to the class. This works fine but now I have installed wingate on the win2k pro machine it seems that user in the class can ping the wingate server but not get the java box to come up. I have checked the DNS settings and compared settings with the old wingate I was using before. Do I need to enable IP forwarding on the pro machine I didnt think this was nessacery.
Sitting on the wingate server I can get the java box to popup no problems however after updating to 5.2.3 the java box takes along time to show (on the server) and I can login but no web pagers are displayed.
Are you able to help please?

Hi Andrea,

There's a couple of things that I'm not sure about here. Are you still running the original server? It almost sounds like you have WinGate behind a WinGate server? What do you mean that you can still get the Java box to pop-up on the WinGate server?

As long as you set the client machines to point their default gateway at the internal NIC of the WinGate server you should not need to add IP forwarding. The WinGate machine should have it's external NIC pointing at the internet gateway but should have no D.G. set on it's internal NIC.

Wigate is still on the other machine but only as a backup otherwise it is off.
No I have not got wingate behind wingate I have an external card of 192.168.0.2 which is connected to my adsl router of 192.168.0.1.
What I mean by the java box coming up is I have set IE6 on the wingate machine to use the proxy address (10.X.X.X) so I can test from there.
Wingate works on the old version but when I do the update to 5.2.3 thats when the problem begins with a very slow java box to appear and on access to web pagers. There is permission to access the WWW service as I say it only happens after the upgrade. I have uninstalled the whole thing of that machine and are now using the backup. But with install the old version of wingate today.
Thanks for the quick response.

Hi Andrea,

I've just had a look here at 5.2.3 with the java client enabled, it did take a bit longer than the version 6 client to pop-up, but it was under 30 seconds. How long was the time that you were seeing?

Could you please try with the version 6 beta?

Thanks,

Matt

Ok I have installed the Beta 6 version and the same problem exists the Java box takes about 28 seconds to fully display and can not browse the net.
The only difference I have noticed is that in ver6 it logs me off after about 5 seconds of trying to connect to a web page.

do you get the same problem when you try and connect from the client?

When you are unable to browse the web what is the error that you get?

Yes on the clinet also.
It says Page cannot be found.
I have also noticed that from the wingate server on the old version of wingate I could untick the proxy settings in IE6 and go straght on the internet by bypassing wingate (not from client wks) but on WG ver6 I have to also stop the wingate engine before I can get out onto the internet.
