uninstall wingate

Postby jensen » Jun 23 04 4:32 am

we uninstalled wingate on some machines, which include 98, 2k, xp...

the uninstallation seems to be successful but there are 2 more files left. wglsp.dll and wgclient.cpl

according to the instructions "Removing the WGIC Control panel Icon" I removed wgclient.cpl but it left behind 2 registry entries "qbik software" and "winsock2" which will generate connection errors if removed.

Also the wglsp.dll is never go away! If I removed wglsp.dll in safe-mode it can never get DHCP IP again and will have DNS error.

those computers that has wglsp.dll intacted are slower then usual. please let me know how to completely uninstall wingate? especially this wglsp.dll?? I think we deserve the rights to "get rid of" wingate right?

Please comment?

Hi,

For the .dll file you should be able to rename it, reboot then delete it, or boot to dos and delete it from there.

You should be fine to remove the Qbik Software entry from the regsitry but the Winsock2 entry was not created by us, it's a Microsoft entry so we don't advise removing anything from here.

Did you do a custom uninstall or an automatic uninstall? You may have to reinstall and then do an automatic uninstall.

Thanks Matt,

I know I can remove the dll file manually but my computer will lost DHCP, internet and DNS connection once I removed the wglsp.dll file. Please help!

P.S. I uninstalled it using automatic mode. I also reinstall and uninstall again. Not helping

Yup...but the CPL file is the client applet that exists in the control panel. What you're probably gonna have to do is reinstall the client, disable the NIC in the machine, and then uninstall the client. Unfortunately, the applet is bitch to remove when the stack is in use. Also, its pretty hard to boot to DOS and manually delete the client from the drive when you're dealing with a 2000/XP OS installed on NTFS...

thanks hewson,

on the other word, wingate sucks! how come a software can not be completely uninstalled? no wonder wingate doesn't have signed windows logo...

The tech support is trying to ignore the problem and didn't read the question carefully. He has repeated what my question was... sad...

Bad product + bad support = enough! bye!

I will stop using this piece of sh!t on my client's machines. I just find out Linux firewall good, not client software is needed and works better. hey it is FREE!
