WinGate uses standard Windows system calls for authenticating users with the OS user database. This is supposed to include remote domain controllers, active directories etc, and I would have thought that this would also include trust relationships.
Things to check with using a remote user database, you need to have the WinGate service itself running in an domain user account that has privileges to authenticate users, normally domain administrator access is required for this.
