issuing ip address

Postby mike22 » Jul 07 04 8:35 am

Hello. I am hoping someone can answer the following.

Can I setup wingate on one pc and assign different ip addresses for a certain program I have that I can open multiple sessions of. Each instance of the program will need to have a different ip address while in use. I have multiple ip addresses I can use. Can wingate do this and how? If not, are there any other programs that can do this? Thank you.

Hi

DHCP will only issue one IP address to a single machine, and most machines will only accept one anyway.

You can however manually assign multiple IP addresses to a single machine in its TCP/IP properties.

We do this in our test lab to simulate more client machines than we actually have. Then you just need to figure out a way to get each instance of the application to use the different IP address. I presume there must be some way of getting it to do this? It will be a setting in its configuration

Adrien, I appreciate the reply back. I had a few more questions.

1. How can I manually configure the multiple ips in the tcp/ip properties eight on win98 or xp pro?

2. I do not think there is a configuration in the software that will allow other instances of the software to use different ip address. What will the application or developer need to do to create such a configuration to do this? Perhaps I can contact them again and give them an idea of how it can be done.

3. I was coming to the conclusion that assigning multiple ip's on a pc was impossible so I was trying to understand if there is such software like these proxy servers programs that can assign the different ip's for each instance of the application. I would appreciate some more feed back on questions 1 and 2. If not possible, I would need to know if there is an alternative way asked in quesiton 3. Thank you.
