V6.0RC2 Mail Enable Reception is backwards

Postby mikebos » Jul 15 04 3:22 pm

Hi,

I find, Email>Domain>Addresses>Enable Reception no matching Addresses, Else unhandled rejected Actually works Backwards and rejects wrong addresses and only accepts legit mail when selected.

Why don't you just say.
Accept mail for Hosted Domain email addresses, or
Reject Mail with no Hosted Domain email addresses.

ALSO
With system policies set to authenticate the only way I can get SMTP server to receive mail is with Guest Access permitted. It makes sence but seems insecure is this OK, the docs and forums say nothing.

Thanks & Regards

HI Mike

I'll check that first one... good thoughts on the wording!

As for the reception of SMTP..... basically people connecting from the net will always be guest unless they can auth, so for inbound mail, you need to allow the guest account to access mail. You should be able to deny it for other services though.

SMTP

Postby mikebos » Jul 16 04 12:52 pm

Hi Adrien & Thanks,

Thought SMTP needed guest.

I am now seeing Wingate rejecting what looked like mail relaying in 5.2.3 and spam. I am getting legit mail through.

I noticed the email from this forum advising subject had been updated has been rejected, any ideas why?

My setting are
6.115 SMTP Server (SMTP Server)
6.116 ---------------------------------------------
6.117 Session Timeout: 300
6.118 Port: 25
6.119 Startup: Automatic start/stop
6.120 Access Rights: Defaults: are ignored
6.121 Guest - Unrestricted rights
6.122 Start/Stop Rights: Defaults: may be used instead
6.123 Edit Rights: Defaults: may be used instead

Mail Server>Receiving
Block invalid sender domain - checked
Block Blank return path - checked
Block numeric sender domains - checked
Use open relay detection - relays.ordb.org
Block spoofed sender address - checked

Any chance of Black Holing from System Messages, History doesn't say why or how something was handled.

Regards
Mike Bos.

HMmm

try the SMTP server log, it should show as an authentication failure, or you may need to enable debug logging on the SMTP server... then it should tell you why it rejects anything.

SMTP Guest access

Postby mikebos » Jul 16 04 7:25 pm

Hi,

Some weird stuff has happened.

SMTP was working for about a day with guest access, and then stopped relaying outbound local mail.

SMTP policies guest permissions was missing. When replaced, local mail could only be sent by changing to System polices may be used instead.

I suspect settings had not been saved despite autosave being on.

I used to like being able to Right click on a pc icon in network and get the machines properties like IP, MAC address, I see it doesn't work in 6.0

Hi Mike,

Works for me [sort of] apart from the date which can absent, in the future or as depicted, MAC address is strange as well >

However client machines report correctly > odd huh!

Hi Nev,

Are you using 6.0rc2, Networking now gives me a Network Neighbourhood view on network machines, not the properties which pre6.0 did.

Hi Mike,

Yes same version, cannot expand NN but is this the properties report you are looking for? Image

From the Network connections field that is.

Remote Properties

Postby mikebos » Jul 17 04 3:48 pm

Hi Nev,

Like that, not for the Network Connections, but for the remote PC

If you expand items under "Local Network" until you get the remote PC, pre 6.0 if you right clicked on the remote you could select and see its properties. Now you can't.

If you are remotely managing a network, as I do, you could create MAC address policies without having to go to the remote client pc.

Do you know any other way?

hmmmm

looks like probably a migration bug in GateKeeper... we didn't mean to remove this, that's for sure.

I'll make sure it gets back in.
