DC++ problems

Postby netuser » Jul 20 04 10:19 am

I am having problems with this program. I want to run it in its Active mode. First I tried to use it though the WRP and with global access. This seemed to work fine, but always after some time, the search function stopped to work and all new DC connections started to time out. Only thing I could do was to shut down the DC++ and start it again, then it started to work again for a while. I could not find a solution to this, so I tried my luck with the NAT. With NAT I was only able to make the search function working (so it seems that the UDP port redirection works) but all outcoming (I want to download from somebody) connections time out. Incoming connections (I upload data to somebody) do start. So it seems that something is wrong with the TCP port redirection. I redirect port 5000, which I have set in the DC++ as the port to use.

I have just downlaoded the latest version (0.401) of DC++ to try it, and it all seems to work for me via NAT. I had DC++ set to active, and specified my extneral IP and port 12345. In WinGate i had both TCP and UDP redirecting port 12345 across to the the client machine where DC++ was. The other options i had set in Port Security (in the ENS properties) were Syn cookies enabled, and i TICKED 'Don't translate source IP'. With this configuration i was able to connect, search download etc without a problem.

How is you client machine connected to WinGate? Via the WiFi connection? Is it possible that this link is going up and down, which is why it sometimes works and sometimes doesnt?

Regards

Neil

Strange, everything works fine today. I set everything according to your suggestions and it worked, but then I tried to change the settings one after another to match the previous config so that I would know where the error was, but it worked even with original settings. Maybe I just forgot to do a clean restart on my client machine. Anyway thanks for the help, I will read the manual more because I do not know what the syn cookies and "do not translate source IP" options are for.

It was all caused by the Wingate Internet Client. I removed it and it works great now, only with NAT.
