wingate not binding to all nics

Postby mvrolix » Jul 27 04 7:39 pm

I have this problem with wingate 5.2.2 and 5.2.3 on win2k3 with active directory. I installed win2k3 on a box with 3 nic's (a double intel pro and a realtek 83xx) 2 intels are 2 internal segments, the realtek goes to the external adsl modem. It worked fine for several days until I rebooted and noticed that it would only bind to one of the 2 intels. In the list of available nics, the other intel and the rt disappeared. I've tried everyhting but could not solve it. I Tried to remove-uninstal driver-reinstall, moving to other slots, other nics, nothing solves the problem. when starting up the qbik service (or wingate engine, or complete reboot) it mentions the new nic in the system messages, but the nic does not appear in the list of available connections.

At the end I completely wiped the disk and started all over, very carefully performing the install and got it back to work. 2 days ago, I rebooted the machine for windows updates, and guess what? 2 nics (1 intel, 1 rt) dissappeared from the list of available connections.

I have several years experience with wingate (3.x to 5.2) but I never saw this behavior before. I saw that wg6 has a rt8025 work around, but I don´t want to install a beta version that expires soon.

Moreover, I noticed that my vnc server only shows 1 ip address (I am not sure, but I tought that if you hover over the vnc icon in the taskbar, it should show all addressess on which it is listening on).

Hi

This is one of the major areas of improvement of WinGate 6.0, It should be out now within 24 hours, so not too long to wait I hope!

Hello Adrien,

I find your answer a bit "vague". WHAT is solved in wg6? the realtek problem? I noticed several posts about a RT8029 workaround; but I have a 82559. Is this the same problem?

More important: I use the above described machine from all over the world. I can (could) access it using vnc; but since that reboot i can not any longer. Did WG missed up my network bindings (for all other applications? Is this related to a 5.0.x problem where the dialer got screwed up because it "created an extra entry" in the ipconfig-result list?

Is there a tool-solution that enables me to VERIFY in a simple way that VNC (hence, any other app) is still listening on EACH nic on the 5900 port?

The improvement I was referring to is the dynamic binding system, this is a much better system for determining which interfaces to bind to as they come and go.

To see which ports are being listened on, you can use the netstat command from the command prompt "netstat -n" will show all listening ports.

We also have a PortList application as part of NetPatrol, which can then also tell you which application is listening on which port.

Finally, in relation to your other comments about capacity, WinGate 6.0 changed the way Transparent proxy works, to be more robust and quicker, so you should find it has better performance than WinGate 5.x, especially for Web.
