New 6.0 Licensing Issues after Installing

Postby PAInc » Jul 30 04 4:02 am

Hi there,

This morning I got a message from your software (version 5.something) and it said "Hey, update to 6.0!" .. So I did .. The installer tells me about all the cool new stuff in 6.0 .. I get excited .. The software asks me to reboot my machine, so I do. Computer comes back and WinGATE engine starts up fine, but wait! GateKeeper says NO NO NO I need a license! Well when that new menu for the license activation pops up there are two existing licenses in the menu (from my 5.something version) .. So I tell the license activator police thing to update and it returns a error! So, now I'm getting sorta of Aggitated .. I hit cancel, and try again .. Same Error ..

Ok, so now I'm upset .. I reboot machine, and when the software comes back to life, it says that I have NO licenses available and gives me two options, activate the Trial or enter in my Old License that I got from a email ..

Well, I would like to know what just happened and why my first original valid legal legit licenses were either deleted or lost in the nether world of 1's and 0's ..

And how am I supposes to retrieve a lost Key from your company when there is no contact information other than a public forum and a Telephone number in Middle-Earth, I mean New Zealand ..

Please respond soon, I would like to actually "see" WinGATE 6.0 running in all its glory with my Original Key and not this short lived "Trial" non-sense.

Thank you,

I reckon everyone is sleeping ..

Well, I'm not that mad .. Just sorta upset that the program inadvertently deleted my original keys .. I had one for WinGATE 5.3 PROXY server and one for the corresponding VPN.

Also, I failed to mention that when the installer of 6.0 starts up, it shuts down the running older version of WinGATE, thus disabling the Internet .. which kept me from trying to activate my good Keys at the end of the installation of 6.0 (It loaded up the license manager and asked me to register, so I tried, but because my internet was shut down due to WinGATE 5.something not running it errored out and showed that in the menu).

Well, so after rebooting twice .. The system somehow lost my original valid keys for 5.something and now the license manager only allows for me to try the Trial or enter in manually the (lost) Keys .. So since they were lost, and I can't seem to find my old email from your company giving me the key, I had to activate a trial license .. HELP! =)

Hope this can be fixed ASAP!

Well I sure hope someone answers my question soon ..

OR better yet, tell me how to get that email with my key sent back to the same email it was sent from in the first place!

And please don't tell me I have to make a $4.00 a minute phone call to New Zealand and be placed on hold for an hour to speak with someone in Customer Service and then transferred to Support!

Your website has no information on how to get a OLD Key re-emailed to the email it was originally registered under .. I think that if I could get this then I could get my WinGATE 6.0 back up and running, yehaw!

Thanks,

The easiest way is to email Matt Parker, who is our Support Lead. His email address is mattp at qbik dot com. You will need to provide sufficient information for him to be able to track down your original key purchase - this would probably include the Dealer you purchased it from, the Licensee (If you can remember) and possibly an approximate date that it was purchased. Essentially, the more information the better.

In the meantime, what was the error message you got when activating the key ? Can you remember what type it was ? (Plus, Pro, etc. ?)

Larry had a good suggestion. The 6.0 Installer would have prompted you to backup your registry. You should be able to retrieve your license keys from that registry backup.

PS.

I doubt very much it deleted your keys.

They should still be in the registry.

However, if you had downloaded build 983, there is a problem with activation on that version, you need to update to 984. Unfortunately there were intermittent problems with the crypto function we were using to generate keys, and it would sometimes randomly not generate a key. We had to fix this yesterday, and release a new version.

Hi,

I've had a look for your old license but your email address and name don't show up in our database. You can email me with your details and I'm sure we'll be able to find your license, mattp at qbik dot com

Matt

P.S. I do like your product .. I just had a crap load of stuff happen yesterday and 99% of it happened before I installed your product. Sorta like the expression: " .. the straw that broke the camel's back"
