Wingate not functional.

Postby daxyaphw » Aug 16 04 3:51 pm

Hi All,

I have purchased and installed Wingate Pro v5.0.
My problems are:

1) Intermittence connection close for internet
2) Outlook express can't connect to access email
3) VPN SecurID can't connect.

I believe some other configuration to be done to resolve this.
Appreciate anyone can help me with this...Thanks alot.

Hi,

Are you sure that you're running version 5.0? We have just released version 6.0, is this what you meant? If you are running version 5.0 you can upgrade to the latest engine for free.

Can you please tell us about your network setup, how are your clients connecting to the WinGate server? How are you connecting to the internet? Are you running the WinGate mail server or connecting to an external server?

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your quick reply.

Our network setup:
1) All internal LAN connected to internet through Cisco PIX firewall to ISP.
2) All clients connected internet via server gateway (previously without Wingate)
3) Wingate proxy was installed at an internal server.

Hope this will help...Thanks again

Does this WinGate machine have 2 interfaces or one? Some things don't work with only a single interface, such as basic NAT (unless you are using transparent proxy in which case it will work for intercepted connections only). WinGate doesn't NAT back out the interface it received a connection on.

The reason I am asking this is because you say you are running WinGate on an internal server, and then going out through your PIX firewall.

Do your internal clients therefore now use the WinGate machine as their default gateway?

Hi Adrien,

It has 2 interface. The IP is 172.16.1.10 and 172.0.0.1.

The Clients are not connected to Wingate gateway.

One more thing I discovered, can't FTP and Webcam e.g. using Yahoo.com

Have you configured these adapters for the correct adapter useage ? You can do this in the Network Window, in GateKeeper to tell WinGate which adapter is to be treated as the "external" one and which one is "internal".

I have checked network windows. It showed network neighbourhood. Nothing special I can define external and internal. Are you talking about bindings and interface in WWW Proxy Server services? Thanks for the help.

Nope, at the bottom of the network window, there should be a list of adapters ...

Wait, you are running version 5.0. (5.0.0 or 5.2.3 ?) If that's the case, go to "Options" -> "Advanced". There should be a page for adapters, etc. Make sure that the public, private, etc. settings are correct.

Hi,

There are 2 IP - 172.16.1.12 (which is the server network adapter)
- 127.0.0.1

Currently my network has multiple VLANs which connected to the Distribution switch. The DS connected to PIX firewall. From the firewall connected to ISP internet router.

The Wingate server is at 172.16.1.12 and all clients are in 172.16.4.x
I have added the ports like (110,25,443) in the ENS (firewall) enabled. Currently, all clients are accessible to internet with Wingate running.

Problems are:
1) Can't retrieve and send email via smtp and pop3
2) RSA SecurID doesn't work
3) Internet connection intermittence time-out
