GateKeeper disappears

Postby saubrey » Aug 17 04 8:07 pm

I have 6.1 995. After logging into GateKeeper, the GateKeeper window is visible for about 3 seconds, then disappears. GateKeeper is still running according to TaskManager, but it has no visible window on the desktop. I"m running Win2k server with a 6 Pro WG license. Prioir to upgrading to 6.1, 6.0 Gatekeeper worked correctly and did not disappear. What do I have to do to make GateKeeper visible. Thanks for your help.

Hi

We are working on this issue at the moment, and currently suspect corrupt history files of doing this. You wouldn't be able to send them through to me so I can check would you? If removing them fixes the problem that is.

Hi Steve,

I made some comments in another post with regards to this:

Can you try the suggestions towards the bottom and let me know if they work for you, please ?

Thanks. I'll send the history files when I get home from work in about 10 hours. I'll also try what Pascal suggested in the other post.

I sent the history files to Adrien. I also stopped Wingate.exe and Gatekeeper.exe, deleted the history files, restarted Wingate.exe and Gatekeeper.exe, but Gatekeeper still disappeared after 3 seconds.

Hi Steve,

Can you stop GateKeeper completely. Make sure that any processes are terminated. Then, go to the folder where you are running GateKeeper.exe from. First, check for the existence of a "DLL Cache" folder. If it does not exist, try creating it. If GateKeeper still fails, copy d468f96e-bc1d-4939-8892-5374e127b603.dll from <program files>\Qbik Licensing to "DLL Cache". This file should be version 1.3 and be approximately 692KB in size.

This folder should be automatically created and the DLLs cached there - however, I've seen a case today where it refused to create the folder / copy the files. I suspect it's related to OS level permissions, but am still trying to track it down.

That worked!

Although I already had a sub-dir named DLL Cache and it already had one file in it named 69cc632d-fefe-4803-b4ee-6b2c1f97c2af.dll. None the less I copy all three files from D:\Program Files\Qbik Licensing, coping over the file that was already there, and now GateKeeper does not disappear. Thanks for your help

Any chance you might have a copy of the file that was causing the problem ? (Or perhaps a version number for it) I'm trying to track this problem with the file down, basically, but we haven't been able to reproduce it in QA here.

No, sorry. I overwrote the file, with the newer file, and didn't save the original. All I can say about the original 69cc632d-fefe-4803-b4ee-6b2c1f97c2af.dll is that it was the same size as the newer one and had the same name.

Thanks for that. I think I've found the problem. One common thread between all machines exhibiting this behavior seems to be OS + Service Pack level.

So - which service pack are you running on your 2K box ? (If any?)

That blows that test out of the water then - because, I saw the same on a 2K (No SP) machine. As soon as it was upgraded to SP4 it began working.

The one thing that I can think of that may be out of the ordinary is that I have always installed WG via Terminal Services from a remote client computer. This includes installation of WG 6, 6.01, 6.01b996, and all versions of 5.x.

I don't know if this is related, but when I first installed WG 6 RC2, I had problems with GateKeeper not displaying the Acivity Pane (or any other pane for that matter). The GateKeeper window was visible, and the menus were too, but the Control Panel, Activity Pane, etc. were not visible. Most menus items were not enabled. After some fiddling, with your help, the problem turned out to be an Authentication issue, and somehow after enough fiddling the problem got fixed, although I'm still not sure what fixed it.
