Port Ranges opened in ENS lost on reboot

Postby Bob Tucker » Oct 06 05 4:40 pm

I added a second DSL connection to the Internet server at a client site where Wingate 6.0.4 is installed. When that server is rebooted, port ranges entered into ENS are often not restored. I save the configuration several times after again entering the appropriate port ranges, but the problem persists. I save the configuration after entering the port ranges and subsequently save the registry. When the port ranges are not restored after rebooting, I restore the registry and restart Wingate, but the port ranges are again not restored, so I it seems the port ranges that I open may not be saved. Any ideas? Is it possible to enter the port ranges into the registry directly? Is that a good idea?

Kindest Regards,

Hi Bob

Normally when you enter port ranges and save settings, these will go into the registry. If these are being removed on restart of WinGate, that indicates a problem.

There are certain automatically-created port range settings (openings for services, intercepts for transparent proxy) - are these still showing, or is the "Incoming connections from the Internet" table blank?

I'll have a look and see if I can find anything that may be causing this.

Hi Adrain,

There are two port ranges that are being removed when Wingate starts. I adjsuted both recently. We receive external email on port 8192, so I have changed the bindings on the two external adapters to override the service port and use port 8192. I created a hole in the firewall at 8192 and saved the configuration. Upon reboot, the autocreated hole at port 25 is not created. But the hole at 8192 is also missing. The site also uses Exchange 2003 OWA - using secure sockets. I have a tcp mapping at port 443 in Wingate to the Exchange server. I have similarly created a hole at port 443 in the firewall. This hole, too, is missing after reboot.

This problem started after I added a second DSL connection. I had a very similar setup with a single DSL connection without a problem.

Adrain,

I will email you login instructions for web-based remote access to the Wingate server if you think that might be of use. You can log in as domain administrator, so you can look at Wingate, registry, etc. Please email me with an address to send the web-based remote access information. (I will delete the email address in this post when I have received your reply.)

Kindest Regards,

Dear Adrian,

This problem seems to have fixed itself.

This afternoon, I added some email address handlers in the domain, did a print screen of port security, saved the configuration, and rebooted. The port security was correct after reboot. I did exactly the same thing yesterday, and port some security was missing - althogh the changes that I had later made to mail handlers were there.

In the last few days, I saved the configuration several times each time I changed port security, and the changes were not there after reboot. However, I did not make other changes before I saved the configuration. I must have not actually saved the changes.
