Hanging connection after POP3 Collection

Postby olaf.krause » Aug 26 04 4:57 pm

I use wingate 6.0.1
* to collect all my e-mail boxes from my ISP
* using a ISDN dialup connection (which is established via wingate).
* A Antivirus plugin is installed Kaspersky 4.0.2.23 engine

Sometimes the POP3 Collection does NOT terminate! The collection is still listed in the internal activity display.
E.g. I started a collection yesterday and it is still trying to collect. Since I have to pay the connection on a per minute basis this is the very expensive bug.

Please give some tips how to proceed (log, debugs etc.).
Note:
At the moment it seems to be reproducable (since I have not deleted the problem causing mail from my mail server yet)

Hi Olaf

If you can turn on debug logging in the SMTP Server, that will log everything about POP3 Collection to the logs\POP3 Collection\ directory.

If you can then send this log to me at adrien at qbik dot com I will see what is going on.

Is the mail being deleted from the server? It sounds like something is breaking the collection (perhaps the mesage parseing). Does it always get up to the same message number in retrieval when it stop? Or does it complete downloading all the mail?

No

It seems to stop at the same message. That's why I think it should be reproducable. I will remove all other mails from mail ISP mailserver and will leave only the interesting one.

After this I will stop, remove old logs and start wingate again (with debugs) to get a clean logfile of the interesting mail collection. I will send you this via mail.

Once again

Postby olaf.krause » Jun 07 05 6:48 am

In the last few weeks I again had some problems with retrieving emails. The status screen in gatekeeper shows "Collection mail for...." even if there are no mails left in that box??!! I also never got into the situation that there were mails left on the server (but this could be random).

The message disappears only if I stop and restart the wingate service. I checked the connection status with netstat and it is really established. Stopping wingate the connection goes to FIN_WAIT_1.

System: Win2003, wingate 6.0.4, SDSL Connection to ISP

Hi All

We are aware of a couple of problems with POP3 collection in 6.0.4 and earlier versions.

We believe that these are fixed in our current in-testing version which we hope to release this week. If any of you are keen to try it to make sure it solves your problem, please let us know.

Regards
