WinGate BaN List

Postby DonovanK » Mar 16 10 11:18 pm

Hi Guys

Ok so the server I installed Wingate on is not connected to the web yet.
I have a XP virtual machine running on the server so that i can test exchange between the server and a Client Machine which is the XP Virtual Machine.

Now ive loaded GateKeeper.
I have set up the proxy settings within IE of the XP virtual machine. which is 192.168.0.2 port 80
When i use IE it shows up within Gatekeepers activity monitor so i know its working.

Now ive set up a policy on WWW Proxy Server that is for Everyone, within the policy I have enabled a Ban List, which i have entered for example sake facebook.com
now i have not set times for this policy because i want it to be blocked permanently.

Now when I open IE on the XP virtual machine and enter facebook.com I see the activity in the Gatekeeper but instead of telling me thats this website is restricted it just says host not found.

Would the policy only start working once the server is connected to the internet ?

If i add a server IP within the ban list then it responds with Access Denied.

Kind Regards
DonovanK

How are you setting the policy exactly? Are you using Http URL 'contains' facebook.com?

That should work, if you would like to create a support ticket and send through the following files we can take a look for you?

http://support.qbik.com/index.php?_m=tickets&_a=submit

1. WinGate Registry
GateKeeper --> Options menu --> Advanced --> Save Registry

2. WinGate Config Report
GateKeeper --> Options menu --> Advanced --> Save Config Report

3. ipconfig/all from one LAN Client
(Windows) Start menu --> Run --> cmd --> ipconfig/all >> C:\ipa-client.txt

4. ipconfig/all from the WinGate Server
(Windows) Start menu --> Run --> cmd --> ipconfig/all >> C:\ipa-server.txt

What do you have in your System Policy and what do you have in WWW Proxy policy -> "Default rights" setting?

Set "Default rights" in WWW Proxy policy to "are ignored" or "MUST also be granted".

Hi

I set the default rights in the WWW Proxy Policy to "Are Ignored"
This seems to be doing the job

Thanks Alen

You are welcome.

P.S. I am not sure "MUST also be granted" will also work for your case, because of a strange (for me ;-)) methods of user rights and restrictions summation in Wingate. I mean, denied + allowed <> denied (as is usual for me).

Hi Guys

I have set up a test Wingate server on another computer.

So the net is controlled by the server and the Wingate test server computer is on the network.
So i set my computers internet connection setting to the wingate proxy server.

When i set up a BAN list on all users, and set to "IS IGNORED" the websites that I add to the BAN list are still able to be viewed.

I just trialled a policy like this for 'Everyone':
