Wingate 7 Log file fields

Postby ChadRA » Dec 17 12 8:45 am

In Wingate 6 the log files would contain details like the IP Address and user from the machine making requests to services, are these details now only available in the Wingate 7 Pro+ versions? I have been able to set specific services to write to their own log files (like v6 did by default), and have left all fields checked under the "Log Settings" --> "Format" tab, but the log files still do not contain any information under the specified headers. I.E.

I just upgraded from v6 to v7 yesterday morning so I could be missing something.

Thanks,
Chad.

Hi Chad

there are 2 things going on here.

WinGate now by default logs all diagnostics to the global log file. So to see individual logs per service, you need to edit the log source settings for the service to use its own file.

the second thing, is that all the usage information from WinGate 6 logs was incorporated into WinGate 7 at debug level. So to see this information back, set verbosity to debug.

The reason for this relates to the reasons we split out forensic from usage logging in the first place.

Regards

Adrien

Thanks Adrian, I was hesitent to use debug level since that usually includes information more for a developer than end user (at least when I code, anyway).
I'll give it a try.

It's good to see the you have brought back the free 3 user option, that along with the great functionality was the reason I first started using Wingate 15+ years ago... but I still don't mind paying the nominal license fee.

Chad.
