TImeout error when trying to retrieve mail from wingate

Postby batwater » May 22 06 4:13 pm

When I try to retrieve mail from Wingate mail server I get the following error:
Task '192.168.0.1 - Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Wingate indicates that a connection attempt is being made ("POP3: user ben checking pop mail" in history log) only result is the timeout error noted above on the client. I have not changed my configuration in Wingate. (just upgraded to 6.1.2, didn't work before the upgrade either)

Wingate is running on Windows 2003 server.

Client is Outlook 2003 latest patches.

I am using windows authentication, my user ID shows up as assumed in Gatekeeper

Thanks

Hi

You are connecting to WinGate's POP3 server correct (not through WinGate to some other POP3 server on the Internet).

Can you turn on debug logging in the POP3 server and see what you get in the log file?

Sometimes Outlook doesn't like certain emails it gets sent - hangs when it downloads it (bug in Outlook). You might find there is a mail in the account mailbox that is holding up retrieval of all the other messages because of this.

Hi

Looks like there's something about the first message in the mailbox that the mail client doesn't like. You can see that it tries to retrieve the first message, WinGate says it's sending it, and then 1m15s later the client disconnects.

You could try removing that file from the POP3 mailbox and see if the client is then able to retrieve the rest.
