WEB PROXY SERVICE NOT WORKING FOR ME

Postby JUJU_NWACHINEKE » Apr 21 08 8:12 am

I run a 100 pc cybercafe. One two specific features that caught my interest in Wingate, web caching (proxy) and DNS service. I downloaded the latest version of Wingate (6.2.2) by and large it's working well. My setup is pretty much as in Scenario 1, but I have manually set IP addresses. Am using WinXP Sp2 as much as my clients. Its a simple PtP network.

Unfortunately, if I set the client DNS to the Wingate Internal IP address, clients can't browse until I reset it the one provided by our WAN providers. Also if I have the "Transparent Redirection" enabled at the Web Proxy Session, then no client can browse. I have even changed the settings in my Internet Option, Connection to use the Wingate proxy server without success. Am looking to this two features to make my bandwidth more efficient, and improve my customers browsing experience.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Probably not the answer but is the network detected correctly as 'internal // external' like this:

Also is ENS enabled and running, the Extended Networking Service or is it in error on the server?

Hi

When intercepting connections with the WWW proxy, DNS lookups are made by the internal WinGate DNS resolver to perform the intercepted proxy request.

The WinGate DNS server also uses the internal WinGate DNS resolver.

So since both these things are failing, it sounds like the WinGate DNS resolver is not set up properly.

By default the WinGate DNS resolver uses the DNS servers specified in any adapters in your system. You can also manually specify DNS servers to use.

You should make sure that either:

a) an adapter on the WinGate machine is configure to use the WAN provider's DNS server; or
b) you enter the WAN provider's DNS server IP into the DNS resolver settings in GateKeeper.

Regards
