DynaRemote and Wingate

Postby tzunami » Jan 07 09 3:01 pm

Greetings everyone,

Wish that I could find solution here. Now, we have this CCTV recorder DynaGuard installed on remote site. All these while we are able to monitor the remote site via web interface call DynaRemote. We access DynaRemote by keying in IP address. No problem occurs until we tested it in our environment where internet connection are authenticate by Wingate. A small pop-up window which normally prompt for username and password doesn't pop up anymore but straight displaying error message telling us authentication error, funny eh? We have been struggling with this for a while now, we have even open all necessary port (port 80) and services. Can someone please give me some guidance?

Thanks a lot.

If your WinGate is configured to intercept port 80 and the clients do not have the WinGate proxy server set manually in their browsers, then the clients will not be aware that they are talking through a proxy server instead of talking directly with the DynaRemote website. This causes problems when a website on the Internet is configured to ask for authentication.

There are two easy solutions to this problem:

1. Configure the web browsers on the client computers to use the WWW proxy server manually. This makes the clients aware of the fact that they are talking through a proxy, and so lets them adjust their behaviour to suit. I highly recommend this solution, however it can be time consuming to roll out if you have alot of computers.

2. Configure WinGate to allow unauthenticated access to the DynaRemote site to avoid conflict with the authentication being requested by DynaRemote.

GateKeeper -> Services -> WWW Proxy Server -> Policies
Click Add to make a new policy
Go to the Advanced tab
Enable the filters here
Click Add Filter
Click Add Criterion
Select this criterion is met is HTTP URL contains example.com (replace example.com with the URL that you use to access the DynaRemote site)
Click ok, then ok, then apply

Hi Logan,
Thanks for responding.For solution 1, when you say configure web browser to use www proxy server manually, is that means configuring LAN connection in Internet option? Or i have misinterpreted what you have just suggested? please advise.

yes..It has been the way we authenticate users all these while. we point the address to our proxy server and port 80.No problem while accessing the Internet. Just this occurs when trying to access the CCTV interface via DynaRemote. Sigh.....

Then what about the 2nd option? Overriding the authentication requirement for the DynaRemote website.

Correct me if i'm wrong. The second option is actually adding a filter where you allow the request to go through if it met the criteria set. I have tried that, and it actually forbided me from going out to other website but to the site we specify. However, this doesn't helps either. still the same problem....

That shouldn't have happened based on those steps. Worst thing that should of happened is nothing at all. Then again creating filters in WinGate is a bit of an art form, since the filters you create and how you create them depends on the filters that you have already setup before hand.

I think we are a bit beyond what we can deal with in forum posting now. I'm going to need to know how your WinGate installation is actually configured to make further suggestions. Could you create a support ticket at the online helpdesk and include the following information. Thanks.

1. WinGate Registry
GateKeeper --> Options menu --> Advanced --> Save Registry

2. WinGate Config Report
GateKeeper --> Options menu --> Advanced --> Save Config Report

3. ipconfig/all from one LAN Client
(Windows) Start menu --> Run --> cmd --> ipconfig/all >> C:\ipa-client.txt

4. ipconfig/all from the WinGate Server
(Windows) Start menu --> Run --> cmd --> ipconfig/all >> C:\ipa-server.txt
