Correct me if I am wrong, I am not so young any longer, a lot of new stuff.I want to know.
I thought I used ICS in Windows 95 but it came with W98SE at first.
My first PC came with two floppy drives and MS-DOS ver 2.0.
Before that, several basic computers and one 16 bit Texas. The PC was only 8 bits.
What did I use before to share the internet connection? (Windows 95)
I think I remember Wingate and that it had a built in NAT server.
Am I wrong? or if it was Wingate and a NAT server?
Since, (I think 1999) and Win98SE, I have used ICS but 6 months ago I got a dsl router and now its impossible.
Today, I have no idea about what Wingate is, or how it works.
Now I use WinXP PRO SP3 (and the fix for this problem) and there will be no Windows 7. Maybe Linux.
I can use ICS with several 3G USB modems but my ISP now is Vodafone in Spain. That seems to be the big problem.
ICS or LAN (MSHOME) does not work with their router but with the router also came a 3G USB modem and I have the same problem with this.
This USB modem can connect to the router OR a computer.
Question here, what is the problem? The router or Vodafone? Or both? I think the software (in router and modem)is not compatible with ICS.
AVG Internet suite blaime it as malware. Should I trust that? But strange, most program used like browsers Explorer, Firefox and this week I added Opera.
These too are malware if connected to Vodafone and so are bittorrent and other download programs.
But if I connect with other 3G modem ISP they are not malware. This is very hard to understand.
Vodafone works very good and so do the USB modem and the router AS LONG as I do not use ICS or LAN (MSHOME). If so, everything will freeze more and more
until it is not possible to reboot without reset.
But this also hit Vodafone maybe as the router now is "broken" but still I have the problem with the 3G modem?? Malware?? Virus?? With AVG Internet Suite 2011 running?
In both cases, software from Vodafone.
I have 4 other USB modems I can use for ICS/LAN but not this one from Vodafone.
I have a possible conflict between ICS/LAN and Vodafone software causing my computers to be like stoned.
Now I wonder if there is a point in returning to Wingate if it now ever worked with shared internet connection. (i am not sure)
I want to use one of my computers as a server/proxy/router for at least one of the rest of my computers. XP
If I have a working LAN. Two PCs and MSHOME working.
I tried to connect to Vodafone with the wireless USB modem, at the same moment I pressed connect my LAN will go away.
Problem with network ports. I dont know how to fix this. One way is to uninstall the firewall as it seems to reset these ports.
But the firewall IS NOT the problem.
My LAN is back and I press connect again and my LAN is gone and no firewall to uninstall to fix the ports.
This is a problem only with Vodafone, not with other 3G modems.
I use Acronis so it will take 3 minutes to load an older install of XP and I think I have done this for 20 times now. Since friday.
My LAN will not work with Vodafone but with other ISP.
Its hard to understand this. Why this problem?
With the router I got more problems or maybe just gateway/DNS problems I cannot fix.
Do anyone know if the problem is the same with all DSL routers?
If I can use Wingate to work around this problem, will Wingate work with dsl routers?
Will Wingate work with Vodafone in Spain?
A week ago, I had a "visit" or "univited guest" on my computer, or at least 3 visits. I know one of them for sure. Vodafone support.
He placed some config files for the router on my harddisk without asking. (while we was talking by the phone so I watched it happening) The only info he needed was my telephone number. To see, is one thing, to understand is an other thing. The support use keyboard to configure the router but the files was named as config(something) for router. If they maybe was not placed there but generated there I do not understand but I saw it happen. No matter, placed or generated, its an access to my hard disk.
Also the phone depends on the router. Now the router does not work since friday. I have no internet and no phone.
I will recive a new router within a week but I will never ever trust such thing in my house. I want to get rid of it as soon as possible
but I need something to connect to internet with. OR protection. If I need a new hardware I want to buy it myself. But for some reason, I am already using VPN (for several years) and firewall
The big problem here I was connected to a VPN service and was running AVG Internet Suite 2011 then these files was placed on my hard disk.
At this moment it is an OPEN VPN and I like the usual VPN better. Open VPN is too easy to break the connection. There is no warning for this. The icon is green.
Connected, but its not true. On VPN I can use reconnect. Open VPN is extremly unsafe to use due to the fact that the client hide broken connection.
Today, my passwords are changed. I cannot read mail in my two mail accounts. One at my own site (domain)and the other mail service is hotmail.
But I also have problems with keyboard and details missing, parts missing in webpages. Many password do not work but is it true or is it the keyboard?
How do I know anything here? This is strange and I do not belive in ghosts.
So, I use VPN and it seems to me that I have a very good reason to continue with this. I want 100% stealth on all ports.
But it will not help as long as my ISP have free access to my router and computers. I have traffic on my computers that I do not cause myself.
It could be that heavy that I am not able to brows any pages. or do anything else. They can be occupied to 100% and no AV or disk maintans is running.
As I mentioned, I have a lot of experience to reinstall XP too.
Some of this is new to me since friday but the problem with Vodafone have last for 6 months now and I need vacations after all this work.
I need advice, and it is very urgent, thanks.
