Windows 2k

Postby rafael » Jul 22 04 12:16 am

I'm new to this forum, but I think I know something about computers.
I have some problems triying to get Wingate working with Windows 2000.

I can do almost everything with Wingate and Windows 98SE, but as soon as I change to Windows 2000, nothing works.

I can not even get a IP address from my DSL moden (SpeedStream 5667) to my NIC card. As soon as I switch to a machine with Windows 98 everything is fine. I need to fix this proble, I was given permission to get the licenses and try VPN too. Any clue, Rafael

Maybe You have a RealTek 8029 based NIC in your server?
In that case you should go in Start Menu/WinGate/Advanced Options

And then in Hardware Specific enable "RealTek 8029 In use"
You Can also disable "Protect My system before WinGate has started" in Security Tab

Windows 2k (Mickey)

Postby rafael » Jul 22 04 6:30 am

I really have a Realtek 8029A, I tried Mickey solution, but I can't se how to get in " in Security Tab".

I'm tryying to solve the problem, but at the same time I want to learn.

Does anybody know what is the problem with Realtek 8029A? Do I need to change de NIC? Is a Windows 2000 Wingate problem? Wingate version is 5.2.3.

Waiting for help, Rafael.

This problem is with WinGate v5.2.3 and RealTek NIC (I have WinNT and have this issue too)

There are only 2 possible solutions:
1) Install WinGate 6.0 RC2 <=Realtek Problem Solved (with steps I have written)

2) If You must stay on version 5.2.3 you have to:

Change (Add) in windows registy:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\QbikHk2k\Parameters\Realtek8029Workaround
type: DWORD
value: 1

and download a new driver from wersion 6.0 which understood RealTek Workaround
I places it here - It is from version 6.0 build 975) and should work:
http://zory.internetdsl.pl/qbikhk2k.zip
And place a unpacked driver in C:\WINNT\system32\drivers directory od similar (depends of windows installation)

I was checking the regestry and I can't find tke key in windows registy:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\QbikHk2k\Parameters\Realtek8029Workaround

If this is correct, maybe I did a wrong installation.

After checking a Windows 98SE/Wingate (is working fine) I couldn't find the key too.

Am I missing something. Rafael

The key that Mickey mentioned is for 2k-based systems - but Mickey was right - you need to enable this workaround. The best bet would be to run WGOptions application which is a part of WG installation, go to the page Hardware and tick 8029 Workaround checkbox.

You has written in first post
I have some problems triying to get Wingate working with Windows 2000.

So I give You a registry Key for W2k System
for WXP it is QbikHkXP etc

In registry You should have a branch:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\QbikHk2k\Parameters

In this branch You add registry key value:

Realtek8029Workaround
type: DWORD
value: 1

Genie he wrote that he use a WinGate v5.2.3 so he don't have a WGOptions application and as is don't have a fixed QbikHk*.sys driver:(

Nope, adding the key wouldn't help - for 98 machine the key is different - it is:
SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\VxD\\QbikHk98\\Parameters
and
SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\VxD\\QbikHkME\\Parameters
for ME.

Hi

You need the new driver as well as that registry key.

The fix was only put in in WinGate 6.0 RC1 (I think), so if you download that your problem should be fixed. If you need to run 5.2.3 for other reasons, you should be able to run it with the driver from 6.0, however there is no easy way to extract the driver from the version 6.0 install package.

Rafael,

Please write what of OS do you use (W2k or Win98)
If you have a Win2000 do you replace your present driver with this form http://zory.internetdsl.pl/qbikhk2k.zip ?

If you have problems with replace driver just start W2k in Safe Mode and replace (should work).

If you have now getting IP address from router maybe you have to check in GateKepper/ Options/Advanced if the interfeces are correct (NIC with IP from Router must be a external, untrusted zone, NIC with connected internal LAN must be trusted, internal)

Windows 2000

Postby rafael » Jul 28 04 6:49 am

After trying for many days, I give up. I couldn't find a way to work Windows 2000 and Wingate. I was having software with lisence and Compaq presario in a Pentium 4 machine.

I format the disk, Install XP and Voila, everything was working.

I must to admit that I don't feel verywell, I fix my problem but I don't know what was the problem with Windows 2000.

Thanks a lot for your you are super.
